 I bought this for a mid 2011 imac. Apple states that the maximum ram in a 2011 imac is 16 gig, and each of the four slots are also limited to 4 gig each, with a total ram for all four slots being 16 gig.
Did as much research as possible seeing that most sellers of ram claim that the 2011 imac will take up to 32 gig, but more importantly 8 gigs per slot. So I took the chance and got 2 8 gig chips plus the 2+2 chips I had giving me a total of 20 gigs of ram.
Works great. Be careful to double check that you get the ram that is made for Mac.
